Apple announced iOS 15 and detailed many of its features Monday during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). While the company went over several of the additions to the updated operating system, there just wasn’t enough time to cover all of them. One that managed to slip under the radar is the introduction of an authenticator, similar to Authy or Google Authenticator. MacRumors reports that the included authenticator system will allow iOS users to generate verification codes for their various accounts directly from the iPhone’s Settings app. Multi-factor authentication (sometimes referred to as two-factor authentication or 2FA) has become one of the most secure ways to add protection to your online accounts. In the past, users have relied on third-party apps like Google Authenticator, though Apple’s included authentication system would remove the need to rely on those third-party apps. Forbes notes the addition of an authenticator is just another step in Apple’s goal to provide better protection for users. iOS 15 also includes Mail Privacy Protection, which conceals your IP address to cut down on email tracking, as well as an App Privacy Report, which details which apps have been using your camera, location, photos, and other key parts of your phone that may allow access to private data. iOS 15 is expected to arrive later this fall, and the public beta will launch in July for those who want to try it out before launch.
