According to a new post by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s multi-device feature is set to launch in a few short months for beta testers on iOS and Android, and will allow for up to four devices and a single smartphone to be linked to your WhatsApp account. 9To5Google notes that support for multi-device support will be limited to WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop, and the Facebook Portal smart display. If you were hoping to be able to use your WhatsApp account across both an iOS and Android-powered phone, then you likely are disappointed to hear this news. It is unclear if the company will change how multi-device support works in the future, but for now, this appears to be how WhatsApp plans to address the long-awaited feature. WhatsApp is one of the biggest messaging apps used around the world, so having support for multiple devices is key. Additionally, the new report says that WhatsApp users won’t need an internet connection on their device to keep using WhatsApp Web, desktop, or the Facebook Portal smart display. Instead, it will use any active Wi-Fi from your other devices to send and receive messages and media.  Even with the limitations noted above, multiple-device support for WhatsApp will be a welcome update. All that users can do now is wait for the company to announce more official information about a possible release date.
