Nokia finally revealed plans to bring its classic flip phone to the United States with the 2720 V Flip. PCMag reports that the upcoming device will run off KaiOS, a mobile operating system originally derived from the old Firefox OS. The 2720 V Flip is an upgraded version of the original 2720, which Nokia launched internationally in 2019. That particular version never made a debut in the US, so the V Flip is a chance for Americans to finally get their hands on the traditional form factor, with a few smartphone amenities added in. These amenities include access to apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Google Assistant, and YouTube. However, it is worth noting that because the V Flip uses KaiOS instead of Android or another operating system, the 2720 V Flip only will offer access to a limited assortment of applications via its app store. Nokia says the new phone will offer up to 28 days of standby time, as well as strong durability and big, easy-to-use buttons. It also will work off of 4G service, so users should be able to make the most of Verizon’s network, as long as they have coverage in their area. Exact specifications haven’t been shared for the V Flip just yet, but PCMag believes it could feature similar specs as the 2720 Flip, which includes a 1500 mAh battery and a Qualcomm 205 processor. It also has built-in hearing aid compatibility and can connect to WiFi. The 2720 Flip is already available in red, grey, and black. However, Nokia’s official page for the V Flip only shows black as an available color option. The Nokia 2720 V Flip will retail for $79.99 at Verizon and will be available on May 20.
