The new SmartThings smart home app is available to download now for Android users, and Samsung said that an iOS update is coming soon. The app has a redesigned home screen and a new, more organized menu for what Samsung calls a better user experience. “We’ve listened to our customers and have invested in our technology to enhance the user experience to make it simpler,” said Jaeyeon Jung, corporate vice president at Samsung Electronics, in the company’s app update announcement. “As smart homes continue to surge in popularity, SmartThings is the ideal platform that allows everyone to enjoy a smarter life with connected devices.” The new app layout is broken down into five main sections: Favorites, Devices, Life, Automations, and Menu. Samsung said that the new interface “makes it easier to discover connected home experiences, while ensuring a seamless transition from SmartThings’ previous version.” The SmartThings ecosystem was first introduced 2014 and allows you to control compatible devices, including lights, cameras, voice assistants, locks, thermostats, and more. It’s important to note that support for the first-gen SmartThings Hub and SmartThings Link for Nvidia Shield will not work after June 30. However, Samsung said the SmartThings app will still let you monitor and control compatible Wi-Fi or cloud-connected devices you may have already set up in your home.
